           Graduation Requirements

   

 

                 **ESOL or ELL Lit./Comp. courses will count  

                     toward the required 4 units

                     4 units required, including:

  • 1 unit of 9th Grade Literature and Composition

  • 1 unit of American Literature and Composition

  • 2 additional units of Lit./Comp English

 

             

 

              **4-year GA colleges require a math beyond

                 GPS Advanced Algebra. Be sure to check with the colleges you                      are interested in to see which level they require.

 

            **Transfer students who took the traditional Alg. I/    Geometry/Alg. II track can count  those toward grad. requirements

 

 

           **Any students planning on a STEM (math/science) major, should                be signed up For Pre-Calc. and/or a higher math course prior to                    graduation.

 

            4 units required

  • 1 unit of Algebra I

  • 1 unit of Geometry, Acc Geo/ Adv Alg

  • 1 unit of  Algebra II / Adv Alg / Acc Pre-Calc

  • 1 unit of additional Math:

  •  (Advanced Mathematical Decision Making, Statistical Reasoning,  Pre-Calculus, AP Statistics, or AP Calculus)

 

 

 

                   4 units of Science required, including:

  • 1 unit of Biology

  • 1 unit of Physical Science or Physics

  • 1 unit of Chemistry, Earth Systems, Env Science

  • Choice Students           

 

 

                    3 units of Social Studies required, including:

  • 1 unit of World History

  • 1 unit of United States History

  • ½ unit of American Government/Civics

  • ½ unit of Economics

 

 

 

 

**Students planning to enter into a 4-year University System of Georgia institution from high school MUST take at least 2 units of the same foreign language**

  1. units required, including:

  3 units are required from: Career Technical and Agricultural Education (CTAE) and/or Foreign Language and/or Fine Arts for all students. If a student uses a CTAE course for the fourth science credit, only the second and third courses of a CTAE pathway will count towards these electives.

 

  • 4 additional elective units

 To promote to 10th Grade - Earn 5 units to include one unit each of core English, Math and Science. 

 

To promote to 11th Grade - Earn 10 units to include and and 2 units each of core English, Math, and Science. 

 

To promote to 12th Grade -Earn 16 units (nonspecific)

 

Note: Students need 17 units by their 4th year to avoid having to take extra courses outside of the normal school day to graduate on time.  

TESTING REQUIREMENTS

Students entering high school 2011-12 and beyond must take EOCs as the final exam in each of the subjects listed below and their score on the EOC test will count 20% of the final course grade.

 

EOC courses: CCGPS ALG., CCGPS Geom., Biology, Ninth Literature, American Literature, US History, Economics.
